Difference between a rental with a Captain and without a Captain

Private owner:

If you are a private owner, you can rent your boat:

  • With a captain - it is called "co-navigation": in this case, you are the skipper.
  • Without a captain - i.e. "bareboat": you are not present on board, the tenant must therefore hold the necessary license to sail and your boat must be insured for peer-to-peer rentals.

Please note that in some countries you might only be able to rent out your boat with a captain.

Professional owner:

If you are a professional owner, you can rent your boat:

  • With a skipper: hiring a professional skipper who will be skipping the boat.
  • Without a skipper (bareboat): the tenant must hold the compulsory license to sail.

**In both cases, your boat must be insured for the rental**
